Orbit vs Google Workspace
Google Workspace is the safe, complete choice: documents, file storage, meetings and every admin tool a large company needs. Orbit is smaller and newer, and built so that we can't read your mail, chats or passwords. Here is how they compare, including where Google is ahead.
| What | Orbit | Google Workspace checked 11 Oct 2026 |
|---|---|---|
| Price for a team | $6 per user a month on Pro, or $3 on Starter without the premium AI, billed monthly, minimum two users. | Business Starter is $7 per user a month on a yearly plan or $8.40 month to month; Business Standard is $14 or $16.80. |
| Mailbox storage | No fixed quota. | 30 GB per user on Business Starter, 2 TB on Business Standard. |
| Who can read your mail | Not us: bodies and attachments are sealed to your key as they arrive. We see sender, recipients, subject and date. | Encrypted with keys Google holds. Client-side encryption, which Google can't read, is on Enterprise Plus and some Education editions only. |
| Team chat and calls | Orbit Chat: messages, files and calls end-to-end encrypted. | Google Chat and Meet, encrypted with keys Google holds. |
| Passwords | Orbit Pass, with vaults shared across your team, in every plan. | Google Password Manager, in Chrome and Android, for each person. |
| AI | Your inbox is sorted by a small model on your device. Orbit AI's chat uses cloud models you choose, through providers we name. | Gemini is included, and runs in Google's cloud across Gmail, Docs and Drive. |
| Documents and files | None: Orbit has no documents, spreadsheets or file storage. | Docs, Sheets, Slides and Drive. |
| Mail apps | Orbit Mail's own apps, on the web, Mac, Windows and Linux, with iPhone and iPad on the way. No IMAP. | Gmail's apps, or any IMAP mail app. |
| Phones | iPhone and iPad apps on the way. No Android apps. | Android and iPhone. |
| Sign-in and admin | Orbit's own sign-in, also an OpenID Connect provider for your apps. No SAML or SCIM yet; an audit log for devices only. | SAML single sign-on, audit logs, and Vault for retention and eDiscovery from Business Plus. |
| Uptime | No SLA yet. | 99.9% a month, with service credits. |
| Compliance | No certifications yet, and no HIPAA agreement. | SOC 2 and ISO 27001 reports, and a HIPAA business associate agreement. |
| Devices | Orbit MDM and Orbit RMM, free on up to 10 devices each. | Endpoint management included. |

Where Google Workspace is ahead
- Documents, spreadsheets, slides and file storage, which Orbit doesn't have.
- Android apps, and any IMAP mail app.
- Single sign-on with your identity provider, provisioning, audit logs and eDiscovery.
- A 99.9% uptime SLA, compliance reports and a HIPAA agreement.
- Decades of running mail at scale.
Choose Google Workspace if you live in shared documents and Drive, need Android apps or IMAP, or need SSO, an SLA and compliance reports to buy.
Where Orbit is different
- We can't read your mail bodies, chats or passwords, and neither can your admins.
- A password manager with shared vaults, and device management, in the same account.
- No fixed mailbox quota.
- Inbox sorting by a model that runs on your device, not in our cloud.
- Less per user than Business Starter month to month, for mail on your domain, chat and passwords.
Choose Orbit if what matters most is that nobody, us included, can read your team's mail, chats and passwords, and you can work without Docs and Drive.
